Festivals in spring

On certain Sundays and public holidays in the spring we celebrate our Dreamtime Days at the Ehrenburg where adults and children alike are heartily invited to celebrate and dream with us at our Living Castle. The season starts with our spring festival over Easter. Select musical ensembles accompany you as you explore the castle and take part in games and watch demonstrations of historical handicrafts, turning the Ehrenburg into a fairytale from the days of yore.

On May 1 the mood is more boisterous on our Wild Witching Day when the sorceresses of Ehrenburg invite apprentice witches and wizards to take part in some mice throwing, toad racing and various other ghastly activities, constantly coming up with new ideas for lots of horrible fun.

When heart-breaking ballads of love and dreadful songs of murder resound from the ancient walls, when delicious smells from the bubbling pot over the roaring fire fill the castle courtyard it’s time for our Schinderhannes Festival!  On Pentecost Duo Zeitensprung brings the good old days of the outlaw robbers back to life with their ditties of craftsmen and highwaymen, magic tricks and plenty of historical anecdotes about Schinderhannes and his band of thieves.

Festivals in autumn

Our Dreamtime Days continue in the autumn, with German Reunification Day and the Sunday after it earmarked as our Entertainer Days. At the beginning of October all of the current fools, jugglers and acrobats of note gather at the Ehrenburg in historical costume for a demonstration of skill and expertise.

At the start of November the Ehrenburg opens its mighty gates for the final themed festival of the year: there are rooms to rent at the Three Skulls Hotel for monsters, ghosts and spooks! At the reception desk the concierge is about to have a nervous breakdown: there are lost suitcases, wrong keys and throngs of trying hotel guests with very particular requirements clamouring for his attention. How glad he is to see the many visitors to the castle of all ages and heights! Help at last! Together with the stroppy room maids and dozy pages they go in search of the mislaid bags and their contents, solve puzzles and show just what they can do in crazy competitions held up on the bastion tower. Enthralled visitors can also listen to the wonderfully ghoulish tale of The Little People in the castle’s lost property office.
